DURHAM,North Carolina—“The drummers, the drummers are awesome! The ones that just finished [in the last scene]—yeah they’re awesome!” said Ernest Hooker, a retiree from the US Navy. Mr. Hooker had just been to the Divine Performing Arts (DPA) show on Sunday night Dec. 28 in the Durham Performing Arts Center, Durham, North Carolina.

Mr. Hooker’s Japanese wife was quite taken by the entire show and said “beautiful colors.”

One of Mr. Hooker’s five daughters, who is a drummer, loved the colorful scenes on stage.

“Oh it’s very vibrant! The costumes were wonderful to see. Well, I am kind of impartial to the drumming parts because I play Taiko, which is Japanese drumming, and so I am really enjoying the drumming parts.”

She continued: “I just love, you know, to hear the synchronized drumming ... and combined with the dance, which is something we don’t do in our own group. But, it’s amazing, and a lot of people don’t realize how difficult it is to do all of that at the same time.”

She also was quite impressed with the dance scenes. “I also loved the dance, and so I loved to watch them dance too! Well, I think it’s phenomenal.”

The Hooker family looked up particulars about the DPA show after learning about it from the website.

Mr. Hooker shared, “We found the [DPA] website with all the beautiful colors on there. We were like, we’ve got to go. And then, we were over at the Northgate mall, which is not far from here. They had some Chinese ladies demonstrating what they were showing in the show, and I said we already have tickets, and I already know, but keep talking, and she was real nice, very nice.”
