DURHAM,North Carolina—“I liked it [the show]. It showed me a lot about Chinese culture and I appreciated learning. A different perspective on how to … [bring] ancient wisdom to the current times, to modern audiences. And there was sort of a fusion of the past, present and future all together,” Michelle, a health and environmental teacher and landscape painter said.

David and another gentleman were also impressed after watching the Divine Performing Arts (DPA) performance on Sunday night Dec. 28 in The Durham Performing Arts Center, Durham, North Carolina.

David shared what impressed him most and what feelings the DPA show elicited: “The costumes were wonderful, beautiful, fantastic. I loved the costumes, beautiful music and dance! ... The obvious connection of the divine to the physical—physicality—the body and the divine were very tied-in. That was the overwhelming emotion, overwhelming connection that I made to that. And the color, the beauty, and the vastness that nature had to offer in the connection between the divine, the natural world, and the physical world, was all there, present.”

“We really enjoyed the transcribed songs that were posted there. The transcriptions of the songs were beautiful. And I think truth, compassion and forbearance comes through clearly, and hope.”

Michelle said she felt inspired from the performance.

“The message of transcending your hardships, that life can be difficult, but there always has to be something to yearn for, to look for, to believe in.”

While David was taken with the message by the performance, and found a connection between the physical and natural world, Michelle found the color combination most impressive.

“I want to add that the colors to me were very important. I was struck in the second half of the performance by ... the costumes. [They] were very moving to me, and particularly the blues, golds and oranges, were just magnificent. And with the setting and the backdrop, I found that very moving and very healing. I actually felt different in my body from feeling that.
