Divine Performing Arts (DPA) played to a packed theater at the Durham Performing Arts Center on Sunday night. This was DPA’s first show ever in the “Bull City” and the Research Triangle area of North Carolina.

Ellie Kinnaird is a state senator who represents Orange County in North Carolina. Speaking of the show, she said, “The costumes were just beautiful. And of course the movements of the dancers were exquisite. [It was] very enjoyable.”

Another state senator, Floyd McKissick also attended the show. “I enjoyed it very much. It’s very, very enriching. I wish many, many others had the chance to be here tonight to enjoy this tremendous cultural experience, and to see all the outstanding talent that is part of this program.” Senator McKissick represents Durham County where the city of Durham is located.

“I’ve had the chance to spend time in over 30 different countries. And to see this here in Durham and to understand its uniqueness and significance of what it represents is truly wonderful,” Senator McKissick said.

Retired law professor Dan Pollitt thought the show was “epic-making.”

“The dancing was superb. I liked the singing. I liked the backdrops and the screen. I liked everything about it,” he said.

Mr. Pollitt used to teach free speech and worked for congressional committees in Washington, D.C. He struck a serious note and remarked, “I think China is making a big mistake when it tries to prevent people from talking about their religion. It doesn’t hurt anybody ... so leave it alone.”
