ATLANTA—As the Divine Performing Arts (DPA) International Company kicked off its 2009 World Tour opening night in Atlanta on December 19, Vina Lee, the Company Manager and Principal Dancer, was pleased to return to the city for the third time.

To Ms. Lee, Atlanta was still the same, with enthusiastic and dedicated theater staff, except now the DPA artists arrive as part of the expanded three DPA companies and two orchestras.

“DPA’s mission is to rediscover the true cultural heritage of traditional China and Chinese positive values, and to inspire people to consider about their paths in life, by manifesting purely beautiful art forms and revisiting the history,” said Ms. Lee.

“In the short period of two and half hours of the performance, the audience not only receives an artistic experience, but more of enlightenment about life. The company does not seek to commercialize the art, and thus can bring the purest performances to the audience.”

On its 2009 World Tour, DPA expects to reach more than 800,000 live audience members in 80 cities across 4 continents. The widely demanded world-class show sold nearly 20,000 tickets on its first five days of ticket sales in Taiwan earlier this December.

“Art has no boundary,” said Ms. Lee. “In the sense of traditional cultural show, DPA is truly the elite. Because it manifests not only the art forms but also, more importantly, displays the inner meaning of the Chinese culture. I have yet to see such a performance anywhere else in the world. DPA can holistically revive the Chinese cultural heritage.”

Lee said various designers and artists in the same industry said DPA has brought them many inspirations, such striking ways of joining colors—bold yet traditional.

“Same goes for the music,” said Lee. “It offers enlightenment for many dancers. So I think DPA is in the lead in terms of music, whether it’s orchestration or performance. Although it’s in the form of a western orchestra, the melody and numerous other tunes are led by the Chinese instruments.

“This is a perfect harmony. It displays the connotation of Chinese culture; meanwhile the language is so rich.”

Ms. Lee said the footsteps of the company will be left in the U.S., Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and countries in Europe and Asia in the next four months. Each of the three companies is shouldering nearly ninety shows.

“Facing such a heavy responsibility, the dancers are very self-disciplined—a cultivated habit,” said Ms. Lee. “As a result, they can guarantee their best spirituality and condition while performing. They will not disappoint the expectations of the audience.”’
