Colin Ash-Smith will be charged for the murder of Claire Tiltman.
Tiltman was murdered in Kent, England 21 years ago. She was 16 at the time.
Ash-Smith is alleged to have stabbed Claire more than 40 times in an alley near her home in Greenhithe in 1993.
He will appear at Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on 28 February via video link, reported BBC.
Claire’s parents are both dead.
Detective Rob Vinson said that the case “is one of the longest-running cases for Kent Police and has remained in the forefront of the minds of investigating officers for over two decades.”
After a “lengthy and complex investigation,” the department concluded that there is sufficient evidence to prosecute Ash-Smith, who is now 45.
Claire’s father Cliff, who died in September 2012, sparked a fresh look at the case after he appealed to officials to solve it while he was on his deathbed.
