A 25-year-old man with a long criminal history has been arrested after ramming an SUV into a woman who had confronted him on a Santa Ana road in California, Fox News reported.
The incident occurred on June 18 following a robbery that took place earlier in the month.
Arturo Suarez, 25, the driver of an SUV, allegedly stole a wallet belonging to the woman’s sister earlier this month, reported KTLA. Family members recognized Suarez, driving the same vehicle in the same area where the initial robbery took place. The woman’s sister then confronted Suarez, blocking the road, before Suarez rammed her with the vehicle.
The incident, which was caught on camera, shows Suarez dragging the victim underneath the vehicle for about 40 yards, before reversing and driving off.
“She was on her side seizing, her whole body was curled up and she was shaking,” the victim’s sister, Alicia Jamison, said.
Former fire captain, Keith, acted quickly to save her life.
“The first thing that went through my mind, ‘Oh my god what am I going to do to be able to talk to the family, if she has a significant enough injury that she passes.’”
The victim required several skin grafts and is now recovering at a hospital.
The victim’s brother, Andrew Jamison, said, “You never want that for the people that you love, and seeing somebody that you’re so close to go through something like this, is one of harden things that I’ve ever had to face.”
Suarez, a parolee with a long criminal history, was arrested the following night without incident, Santa Ana Police Corporal Anthony Bertagna said.
Police are seeking information from witnesses to Monday’s incident.
