SARASOTA, Florida—For Tom Barnhorn, vice mayor of Seminole, Fla., and his wife Rayma, this was their second time seeing a Divine Performing Arts (DPA) show. They had seen last year’s “Holiday Wonders” production in St. Petersburg, Fla.
This year, they traveled to Sarasota, about 50 miles south of Seminole, for the Divine Performing Arts 2009 World Tour at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall on Dec. 22.
“I was prepared for it to be great, but I wasn’t prepared to be wowed again,” he said. “It was fantastic! This brings back a traditional culture that we in the Western world don’t really see very much,” he said.
They especially liked the floral dance (“Welcoming Spring”). It “was just awesome as the blossom came out.” He said they were struck by the fluidity of the dance—“almost like a flower in the breeze.”
Mr. Barnhorn and his wife were also impressed with the drummers’ performances. “The symmetry, the ebb and flow, gave me goose bumps,” he said.
The final performance at the Van Wezel is Tues., Dec. 23, at 7:30 p.m.
