Boy Fills Empty Trick-or-Treat Bucket With Candy From His Own Bag

A California boy’s sweet gesture on Halloween has “really restored faith” for a local mom who left a bowl of candy on her porch while taking her own children to trick-or-treat in the neighborhood.

Kim Manalo left a note beside the bowl asking trick-or-treaters to help themselves to some candy. The Chula Vista mom hoped that all of the trick-or-treat candy would not be scooped up by a single person.

In order to satisfy her curiosity, Manalo reviewed the security footage from her home surveillance system. But what she discovered was unexpected.

In the video, a group of children walk up to the porch only to find Manolo’s bowl empty. As the group walks away, one boy takes candy from his own bag and fills Manolo’s bucket for other children to partake in the holiday spirit.

“He didn’t even know the camera was there,” Manalo said. “None of his friends knew and to take that second out of his time from his own stuff just really warmed my heart.”

Manalo shared the video with a local television station hoping to find the child.

“Seeing that really restored faith. I think that’s why people were so happy to see it because there is still good in the world,” Manalo told KSWB. “It’s just sad that we have to find it only with the children.”

KSWB, a local television station, shared the video on Facebook and it drew heartwarming reactions.

It took less than a day for someone who knew the boy to see the video. A friend of the boy’s aunt said that the little hero’s name is Lawrence. According to Lynn Abiera Coronel, Lawrence is 15 and lives in Otay Ranch. He came to the United States from the Philippines four years ago.

“He saw that the bowl was empty and felt bad for the other kids who were coming later that night,” Abriera Coronel wrote on Facebook. “He had no idea that there was a camera and now is a bit puzzled by all the attention this is getting.”

“He is a symbol of hope especially during this time when we keep on hearing about teenagers stealing, vandalizing, etc.,” Abriera Coronel wrote. “Thank God for kids like him.”
