Former President Bill Clinton created a Twitter profile after an interview with satirical talk show host Stephen Colbert.

A Twitter account with the name Billy Jeff Clinton and the handle @PrezBillyJeff appeared online on April 6. Colbert told Clinton he had created the account for him, then typed out the first tweet as dictated by Clinton. The interview aired on April 8 after being taped earlier.

“Just spent amazing time with Colbert! Is he sane? He is cool! #cgiu,” Clinton’s first and only tweet reads.

Colbert is credited in Clinton’s profile on the social networking site. “Stephen Colbert is my BFF,” it says.

The account already has more than 57,900 followers.

Stephen Colbert, who is extremely popular on Twitter with 4.6 million followers, tweeted on April 9 in support of the new account.

“Don’t forget to follow @PrezBillyJeff,” Colbert said. “I believe that as ex-president, everything he tweets carries the weight of law.”

Colbert convinced Clinton to join Twitter despite the former president’s uncertainty.

“I’m sort of insecure. What if you tweet and nobody tweets back?” Clinton asked to laughter from the audience, adding: “There’s nothing worse than a friendless tweeter, right?”

Colbert is known for his joking but sometimes highly relevant commentary on his talk show, such as revealing how super PACS work while discussing his own possible run for office.
