Alex Ovechkin Partying Since Stanley Cup Win, Dives Into DC Fountain
Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin continued his Stanley Cup victory celebrations by leaping into a Georgetown fountain with fans.
The team’s win on Thursday night against the Las Vegas Golden Knights marked the first time in history that the Capitals clinched the top spot in the National Hockey League.
Ovechkin, obviously, is thrilled.
“I just Cup holder right now,” Ovechkin said, according to Fox5.
The Caps were seen around Georgetown on Saturday and a viral video captured the team running into a fountain by the waterfront.
Ovechkin and left-winger T.J. Oshie dashed into the fountain with the cup, before encouraging bystanders to jump in with them.
“I still can’t believe it,” Ovechkin said earlier. “I think no one still can believe like we did and we are right now Stanley Cup champions. But it’s great, I think. Something you will never forget.”
On Tuesday the Capitals are expected to parade the cup down Constitution Avenue in D.C. and take part in a victory rally on the National Mall.
“It’s going to be amazing,” Backstrom said. “Not just for us, (but) for the city of Washington I think that has waited a long time for this. It’s going to be great to share that with them.”
