Alaska Airlines Plane Hits De-Icing Truck on Taxiway: Reports

An Alaska Airlines plane bound for Portland, Oregon, collided with a de-icing truck on at Boston’s Logan International Airport on Monday, Jan. 16.

The plane had 166 passengers on board when it crashed at about 4:40 p.m., reported CBS Boston.

No one was killed or injured.

The de-icing truck was parked and no one was in it, the Massachusetts Port Authority told CBS.

One passenger said it felt like they ran over a speed bump.

“Not a big deal, a little bump,” Rick Gencarelli from Portland told WCVB. “But a little bump turned into a big inconvenience.”

It did cause a significant delay for the flight, The plane was taken back to the gate to be checked, and an airline spokesperson said the left wing of the plane was damaged, WCVB reports.

The plane was taken out of service and its passengers put on other flights to the West Coast.

“We apologize to our guests who have been inconvenienced this afternoon on AS Flight 33. The safety of our guests and our employees is our number one priority,” the airline said in a statement to CBS Boston.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident.
