Advanced Plant Habitat Heading to International Space Station
The Advanced Plant Habitat Base, initially housed and prepared at the Kennedy Space Station Processing Facility, was part of the Cygnus spacecraft’s cargo last month. The Cygnus took off from Wallops Island Virginia on May 20. The Advanced Plant Habitat Base contains several variety of seeds, and is fully automated, requiring minimal supervision from astronauts at the International Space Station. The plant base is part of ongoing efforts to find effective ways to grow food in space, offering greater flexibility to astronauts and researchers. It is the largest plant chamber built for the International Space Station.
