A 5.0-magnitude earthquake struck northern Japan on Sunday, according to U.S. officials.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that the tremor hit about 30 miles east of Shizunai, located on Japan’s Hokkaido island. The quake hit at a depth of 38 miles

It’s not clear if the quake did any damage.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center didn’t issue a warning for the quake.

Shizunai is located about 700 miles north of Tokyo, Japan’s capital and largest city. It’s also located about 88 miles southeast of Sapporo, the largest city on Hokkaido.

Japan is located along the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” an earthquake hotspot. The “Ring of Fire” is in the basin of the Pacific Ocean with about 450 volcanoes. About 90 percent of the world’s earthquakes strike along the region, which encircles the Pacific Ocean.
