Three men have been arrested on capital murder charges in connection with the slaying of a Spring, Texas, couple.
The suspects were identified on Wednesday, Jan. 17, as Aakiel Kendrick, 21; Khari Kendrick, 22; and Erick Peralta, 20, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
All three suspects are currently in jail.
“I want to thank the Harris County community for helping our dedicated investigators bring justice to the Lam family and get these dangerous criminals off our streets,” Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said in a statement. “We join the Lam family in grieving our entire community’s loss.”
On Tuesday, Jan. 16, just one day before the arrest, the department released surveillance footage showing two men walking around the entrance to the community. It also shows them driving a black Lincoln Navigator.
Police were called to the Lams’ house after a welfare check call by the couple’s son Richard Lam, who had not heard from his parents in two days.
Sheriff Ed Ed Gonzalez said the Lam family “was clearly targeted.” And that the suspects returned to the couple’s home “several times” between Thursday night and Saturday night.
The couple had moved to the United States in the 1970s from Taiwan and Laos, according to the newspaper. They began by enrolling in college, before working several jobs to support their children. They later opened a Marble Slab ice cream store and multiple subway franchises.
“They took them from us way too soon, and they'll never get to see their grandchildren,” the couple’s daughter, Michelle Lam, told reporters before succumbing to tears.
