A Michigan woman was arrested after she left three children in a minivan, and police said that it happened during one of the hottest days in years.

The three children were 6 and under, police told Fox2 in Detroit. Police got a 911 call on Sunday after people saw the children in a gold minivan parked in a Meijer store in Clinton Township.

One officer worked to free the children while the other went into the store to find the mother. Eventually, the 6-year-old girl unlocked the door, and officers noticed that the children were sweating profusely.

The 37-year-old mother, who was not identified, claimed that she went to check on her children. However, according to the Fox affiliate report, police said that she made no effort to go outside to see if they were in distress.

The woman was arrested and now faces two counts of child neglect.

Security video showed that she was in the store for approximately 25 minutes, The Associated Press reported.

The children were evaluated after paramedics were called to the scene. They were handed over to their aunt.

According to police, the 6-year-old was “sweating pretty bad,” reported ClickOnDetroit. The front windows were open about 1 inch.

The Detroit News reported that Sunday was the second-hottest June 17 temperature recorded in the area.

On that day, temperatures were well above 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

She was released on Sunday after posting bond, MLive reported.
