The 2018 VW Beetle Convertible Dune is powered by a 2.0-liter TSI turbocharged inline-four engine. With the help of intercooler and direct injection, it delivers 174 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque, while providing a mileage of 26 mpg city and 34 mpg highway.

The sky is the limit with the VW convertible. In just a few seconds, you can bring the outside to the inside by pushing and holding the button that lowers the top. To raise it back up, just pull and hold.

Front vented disc brakes and rear solid brakes, plus electrometric power steering with variable-assist, heighten the driving experience. The Dune model is equipped with a tougher suspension and 18-inch wheels to tackle rough roads—or maybe no road at all. The six-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic and Sport Mode adds to the performance and driver engagement. The Beetle Dune package is an iconic and timeless classic coupe convertible with an aggressive stance that shouts back to the Baja Bugs of the sixties.

Inside, dual-zone Climatronic automatic climate control keeps the atmosphere cool and clean even when the top is down. A multi-function display allows you to continually monitor things like fuel consumption, estimated miles to empty, radio station display, and personalized functions. Just one glance gives you the complete disposition of the vehicle.

The leather-wrapped, multi-function steering wheel and Composition Media color touchscreen sound system keep you in touch with the world. The heated front seats, V-Tex leatherette seating surfaces, and the Kaferfach heritage-inspired secondary glove box provide you comfort and order in your world.

The 6.33-inch touchscreen supports voice controls and sports a proximity sensor that can enlarge certain menus for easy touch control. This high-quality tech feature is available in only a few relatively inexpensive coupe vehicles. But it is found in the Beetle Dune!

Numerous safety features also come standard in the Dune Bug. Features like crash-optimized front seats, standard rear-view camera, electronic stability control, anti-locking brake system, and intelligent crash response system add to the peace of mind.

Cold and icy weather had gripped my part of the country for two weeks. From the Canadian border south to the Gulf, folks hunkered down and traveled, often at their own peril. But this week the sun came out. Daytime temperatures moderated, and the fleet delivered the VW Dune.

Mid-70 temperatures meant ideal weather for driving a convertible. An abundance of sunshine and a mild breeze set me up for a perfect week. Even on Sunday, when late afternoon thunderstorms brought giant raindrops and gusty winds, the word “perfect” was still appropriate.

Perfect weather for driving a sun-loving convertible that’s feisty, impulsive, while generating blasts of excitement—everything was aligned to make this Beetle the car to drive into the sunset and beyond.

Bi-xenon headlights led the way, and LED tail lights bumped up the rear as the Fender premium audio system played sunny music for a fun-filled week.

Behind the wheel a partnership is formed between car and driver, one that lasts as long as fun is fun.

The 2018 VW Beetle Convertible Dune carries a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $32,090 and is covered by a 6-year/72,000-mile bumper-to-bumper Limited Warranty.
