An 11-year-old Oklahoma girl has died after a car hit her while she was skateboarding.

Anna Marie Davis, a fifth-grader in Stillwater, was rushed to the hospital after being hit but ultimately succumbed to her injuries.

“It is with the heaviest of hearts that I must tell everyone that Anna passed away ... her injuries were too much for her tiny body to overcome,” Anna’s mother posted on Facebook on Jan. 15.

A preliminary police investigation indicates that Davis was riding a skateboard down her driveway when she entered the road and was hit by a car.

Witnesses told police the girl didn’t seem to see the car, while the driver’s vision was obstructed by a bush, reported the Stillwater News-Press.
Stillwater police aren’t planning on filing charges against the driver, reported KOCO.

Anna’s school is preparing to help students affected by the sudden loss of a classmate and friend.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Anna, her family and all those affected by this tragedy. Administrators at Anna’s school have been advised so they can take appropriate steps for when her classmates and friends return to school tomorrow,” Stillwater Police Lt. Jeff Watts told News9.

People commenting on the post of Anna’s mother shared their condolences.

“So sorry for your loss. My prayers are with you and your family. God bless!” said one.

“I wish there were words to comfort such a great loss. You and your family are in our prayers,” shared another.

“Bethany - so very sorry to hear about Anna. I can only imagine the hurt you are feeling. Praying for God’s comfort and love to carry you and your family through this time and the days ahead. We are here if you need anything,” said yet another.

A family friend has created a GoFundMe for the family to help them out financially after the death.

In memory of the girl, Cody Stites wrote: “Her love for her school and class at Richmond were some of the things she talked about all the time. Things she loved to do the most included color/painting, fishing, and anything that entailed dressing up (clothes, make up, and hair). She loved to do her nails even after only having done them earlier that day!”

“When tragedy strikes, it is important for our community to rally around those touched by it,” he added. “The family as a whole will need support as they learn what their new normal looks like. We ask that you please give to this family to help cover the cost of medical expenses and Anna Marie Davis’s funeral.”
