Strong winds greeted the nearly 40,00 runners who showed up for the 107th Bay to Breakers race in San Francisco. The yearly event draws fun lovers dressed in costumes as well as elite athletes in pursuit of cash prizes.

For most, the race is more of a parade than a competition, with many participants making it a yearly tradition.

A new feature was added this year, giving runners the option to extend their run by 3 kilometers, making the run a full 15K and thereby receiving an extra medal at the finish.

Winner of the men’s race was Philemon Cheboi of Kenya, who finished in 35 minutes and 41 seconds.  The women’s winner was also from Kenya, Jane Kibi. Her time was 40 minutes and 37 seconds.
